This Privacy Policy describes how Scout for Sellers ("we," "our," or "the extension") collects, uses, and protects information when you use our browser extension. Scout for Sellers is an AI-powered research tool currently focused on helping sellers analyze marketplace niches on Etsy.com. We are committed to transparency about our data practices.

Information We Collect

Information You Provide:

• License Key: When you activate the extension, you provide a license key used to verify your subscription. This key is stored locally on your device and is included with API requests for validation.

Information Collected Automatically:

When you click "Analyze Visible Results" on a supported marketplace search or category page (currently Etsy.com), the extension reads the following data from that specific page:

• Product listing titles, prices, sales counts, review counts, and seller names visible on the page
• The search query or category name from the page URL
• Sponsored/ad indicators visible on listings

This data is transmitted to our backend API (hosted at scoutforsellers.com) for processing.

Information We Do NOT Collect:

• We do not collect your name, email address, payment information, or any personally identifiable information beyond what is needed to validate your license
• We do not track your browsing history outside of supported marketplace search and category pages
• We do not collect data from any website other than supported marketplaces
• We do not use tracking cookies or third-party analytics within the extension
• We do not collect data when you are not actively using the analyze feature

How We Use Your Information

The page data you submit through "Analyze Visible Results" is processed by our backend, which uses OpenAI's API (a third-party AI service) to generate niche analysis, demand and competition scoring, and recommendations. The analysis result is returned to your browser and displayed in the extension overlay.

Data Storage

• License Key: Stored locally on your device using your browser's extension storage API. Not transmitted to any third party other than our backend for validation.
• Recent Analysis Results: Cached locally on your device for performance. You can clear this cache by uninstalling the extension.
• API Logs: Our backend may temporarily log requests for debugging and abuse prevention. Logs are retained no longer than 30 days.

Third-Party Services

Scout for Sellers relies on the following third-party services:

• Uninstall the extension at any time, which immediately stops all data collection
• Clear all locally stored extension data via your browser's extension management page
• Request information about data we may hold by contacting us at the email address below

Children's Privacy

Scout for Sellers is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy occasionally. The "Last Updated" date will reflect any changes. Continued use of the extension after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
